PROFILE

The Andhra University has created the Resource Mobilization Cell (RMC) at the instance of the University Grants Commission in the year 1993 and later it was renamed as A.U Development Centre (AUDC) in the year 2001. Man-power, Infrastructural facilities of the University, Alumni and Industry interaction have been identified as potential sources to be exploited for the development of the University.

Main Activities of AUDC:

  • Industrial and scientific Consultancy
  • Strengthening Links with Industry and scientific organisations
  • Inducting adjunct faculty from industry, research organizations and academia
  • Preparation of Proposals for University Development through CSR Funding
  • INDUSTRY INTERACTION :

    The Development Centre continuously puts its efforts in spreading its network with industries by offering consultancy and Collaborative research. The Established links are being effectively utilized in supporting student training, Project works, and Campus placement activities and to plan for lectures by experts from industry, to expose the students to real life situations. AUDC works as interface between the industries and departments of the university and identifies mutual areas of Interest for R&D and consultancy. The development centre uses its links with industry to enable university to enter into MoUs for mutual benefit.

    OBJECTIVES:
  • To strengthen interaction of the University with industrial and commercial establishments through sponsored research and consultancy
  • To develop and promote training programmes to suit the requirements of trade and industry.
  • To manage the infrastructure facilities of the university for better utilization and resource generation.
  • To participate in the economic development of the region and the nation.
  • To encourage faculty members to actively involve in consultancy and generate the funds for development of the university
  • To establish Chairs in departments with support from industry
  • To improve the student facilities such as Hostels, Library books
  • To contribute to the corpus fund of the university

    CONSULTANCY :

    The University Academic community consists of over 550 faculty members, with about 1800 supportive staff, engaged in teaching and research. Many teachers have won awards for their teaching as well as research. Several of them are authors, having written texts on topics as diverse as the subjects they teach and their writings continue to appear in reputed journals of their fields of specialization. Our diversified faculty, committed to improve the quality of learning, is recognized as one of the university’s major resources to offer educational training, management development, and consultancy and research assistance to business, industry and other public and private institutions. The departments which offer consultancy services include all branches of engineering, technology and architecture, pharmaceutical sciences, economics, commerce and management, law, pure and applied sciences, mathematics, fine arts, psychology and parapsychology. Several faculty members “are already engaged in the sponsored research programmes.” Central and State Government Agencies, Autonomous bodies and Private Organizations have utilized our expertise in numerous ways. The Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Garrison Engineer (Naval Dockyard), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) – Vizag Steel, VUDA, Indian Railways, State Government Engineering departments, CPWD, MES, AAI, NSTL, GVMC, DGNP, NTPC, VSEZ and several private organizations/institutions to mention a few have been entrusting the consultancy works/projects.

    AREAS OF CONSULTANCY:

    The Consultancy Unit has undertaken an Environmental Impact Assessment for the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, integrating technical, socio-economic and health components from the inception of the Centre. Several turn-key projects, right from the preparation of project feasibility reports to post production analyses have been completed, drawing upon multi-disciplinary advisory committees and core groups from the university. The Economy of the region around Visakhapatnam is poised for immense growth, especially because of the export promotion zone. The Consultancy Unit will make available to exporters and export-oriented entrepreneurs assistance and guidance at all stages – feasibility reports, pilot-studies, transport and production and ensure quality control for the product, identify appropriate technology and establish tie-ups for marketing. Some of the areas which have been identified for consultancy and collaborative research work keeping in view the available expertise together with the consulting departments and user agencies are provided in the appendix.

    THE ALUMNI :

    The Alumni of this University have been making significant contributions to the development and progress of our country in various fields of specialization covering the humanities, social sciences, sciences, medicine, engineering and technology. Moreover, several of the alumni hold key positions in teaching, research and administration in national and international organizations and institutes. Recounting their experiences during their academic training at the Alma Mater, most of the alumni, very often, evince interest in extending their help and cooperation for the overall growth and development of the University to enable it to keep pace with the modern trends in the society. The Alumni are a potential source for the mobilization of resource-intellectual, physical and financial for the University.

    TRAINING PROGRAMMES:

    The development centre invites requests from industry and research organisations to frame and organize training programmes in their fields of interest. The expertise of highly qualified and experienced faculty of the university can be utilized for the benefit of knowledge upgradation of Researchers, practicing engineers and young faculty members of the academic institutions. The development centre also helps the students in undergoing training in the reputed industries, public, private sector organisations and local bodies.
