PROFILE
The Department of Commerce and Management Studies (DCMS) came into existence in 1934 by offering B.Com (Hons) programme for the first time in South India. Further in 1957 the Department was the first to start the two-year MBA Full-time programme in India and produced talented executives for over five decades who have been occupying coveted positions in India and abroad. The meet the needs of executives of the local industry, the Department started a three-year MBA Evening Programme in 1977 for the first time in the state of Andhra Pradesh and further expanded with the MBA Programme under Distance Mode in 1998. The Department started a first of its kind – customized Executive MBA Programme in National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant RINL) in 2005 and MBA (Retail Management programme (FT) in 2006. In the year 2008, the Department started an exclusive MBA programme for foreign students. In 2009, The Department started Two-year Master of Financial Control (MFC) programme with the collaboration of a renowned MNC S&P Capital IQ. In 2013 the Department started offering two year full time MBA (Banking and Finance) programme. It has a strong faculty who has carried out extensive research in the areas of Commerce and Management. The Faculty has put in perennial effort to achieve new heights of academic excellence and catering to the dynamic needs of the society. DCMS has the credit of producing the largest number of Doctorates in the faculty of Commerce and Management all India level. So far, 600 Ph.Ds and about 400 M.Phils have been awarded. The Department received grants under Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) scheme of UGC. Andhra Bank school of Business was set up with a funding of Andhra Bank to the tune of Rs. 2 crores.
DCMS is also a member of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), the largest network of B-schools in the world outside US. It provides an ideal study environment with spacious classrooms, lecture halls, seminar and multi-purpose halls, library, computer lab, waiting hall to girls and residential accommodation for its students.

- Road Safety Awareness Programs were organized addressing RTC drivers (National Road Safety Week 2008 to 2015) , Auto Rickshaw Drivers (Road Safety Week 2008 - 2009) Truck Drivers (Road Safety Fortnight 2008 - 09), Heavy Vehicles Owners (2008 -2009).
- Road Safety awareness programs were conducted for the benefit of the young and the youth.
- Blood donations Camps were organized on internationally recognized health awareness days
- Literacy Development programmes were organized in Slum areas.
- Community development works were conducted for fishermen community people.
- Department offers consultancy services to various NGOs, Civic bodies and industrial organizations.
