PROFILE
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), established in 1980 is an interdisciplinary department that caters to the English language needs of the first year UG and Integrated PG students of all branches, besides Management and Economics for the engineering students of UG/PG. The Department preserves its unique interdisciplinary focus by strengthening its doctoral programs and research on the same lines.
The teachers in the department guide students for M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in English, Economics and Management.
Since the inception of Andhra University College of Engineering, the subjects of English, Economics and Commerce had been taught by the faculty from the College of Arts and Commerce of the University. In 1980 Department of Humanities and Social Sciences with English, Managerial Economics and Commerce & Management emerged as an individual department.
