PROFILE

The Department of Statistics was established in the year 1951, with (Late) Prof. K.Nagabhushanam as Head of the Department. It is a matter of great pride that the department was started y such an eminent personality who obtained his Doctorate in Statistics under the guidance of Prof. Harald Cramer, an eminent statistician of the World. The department, since inception, has been working in tune with the mission of the University to promote teaching, research and extension. Presently there are four Professors and four Associate Professors who are committed for Teaching and Research. The department produced 38 Ph.D and 39 M.Phil degrees in various fields of research in statistics like Distribution Theory, Stochastic Modelling, Stastical Inference, Queuing Theory, Inventory Management, Bio-statistics, Statistical Quantity Control etc. It often organises Seminars, Conferences and Workshops in Stastics. The department offers two Postgraduate Courses namely, M.Sc. (Statistics) and M.Sc. (Computers and Statistics) along with Ph.D and M.Phil programmes. It conducted several projects sponsered by UGC, DST and other Govt. Organisations.
